Recently the author of atscap attempted to revoke the "GPL v2 or later" license of his software. Because of specific rights granted by the GPL v3(2). Because his actions are in contravention of a strict reading of a license, we have chosen to mirror a copy of the last version of atscap we were able to get.

If you're really stupid enough to send us a takedown notice, I might recommend abuse@sosdg.org, but more than likely, we'll probably comply, send you back a counternotice, and repost it in ten days, at which point you can sue us, and pay our lawyers.

So why are we doing this? To spread the word about copyright and licenses. There are a lot of people in the free software community that talk quite a bit about licenses, and don't have a clue what they're doing, or why. Understanding copyright law and the GPL itself is critical to protecting the freedoms granted to users by the GPL.

The SOSDG is interested in hosting anyone who wants to continue to maintain this codebase, as the software does appear to be pretty useful if you have a TV capture card.

Second release of ircII EPIC4 For MacOS X now available!

Our second release of ircII EPIC4 for MacOS X is now available for download. This release features a much smaller download thanks to compression - so if you want to make changes to the disk image, you will need to use DiskUtil to convert the image to read/write mode.

IPv6 Is Enabled

We've finally managed to get IPv6 working on the hosts at our Indianapolis location again, after a long hiatus. Services that are now IPv6 enabled includes IMAP(S)/POP3(S), SMTP, SSH, and DNS. We'll be adding more services to the list as the week goes by.

To try the IPv6 access on our hosts, you need to have your own IPv6 connectivity, and use .ipv6.sosdg.org.

Hardware Failure and Growing Pains

One of the drives in everest.sosdg.org failed Wednesday. Although we have been able to recover the data, we decided to push forward with bringing on new servers that were already being built, rather than risk another failure and data loss. Needless to say, this couldn't have happened at a worse time, but we're dealing with it, and making the best of it.

Condolences

The staff of the SOSDG and AHBL expresses it's sympathies to one of our own. Our co-founder, Andrew Kirch lost his father recently in a fire.

Our hearts, minds, and prayers are with the family.
